Ukulele Basics
Four strings, a handful of chords, and songs you can actually play by the end of a few weeks. This class is for adults who want quick wins without a big time commitment. Families, retirees, anyone who has ever said they "aren't musical." That's a process problem, not a talent problem, and we'll work it in small steps.
You'll learn four essential chords, a few strum patterns, and enough singalong songs to keep going on your own. We go slow and correct before we go fast. Bring a ukulele. A cheap one is fine. Tune before every practice. By the last week you'll play through songs like "You Are My Sunshine" and "Riptide" without staring at your hands the whole time.
What you'll learn
- Tune your ukulele using a clip-on tuner
- Fret clean C, A minor, F, and G chords
- Switch between chords without stopping the beat
- Strum steady down-up patterns in time
- Play full songs like Riptide from a chord chart
Lessons
- Getting Started and Tuned
Pick up the instrument, learn the parts, and get it in tune before you play a single note.
- Your First Chord: C
One finger, one clean chord, held correctly before you rush anywhere.
- Adding Chords: Am, F, and G
Three more shapes to round out your four essential chords, one at a time.
- Basic Strumming
Down strums first, then down-up, learned too slow on purpose.
- Putting Chords and Strums Together in Songs
Combine your four chords and a strum into real, recognizable songs.
- Keeping Going On Your Own
A practice routine, honest limits, and how to play in front of another person.
