Gilbert came to fly fishing late and he'll tell you so himself. A neighbor took him up the canyon about twelve years ago, he caught nothing for three hours, and he drove home grinning. He's been going back ever since. He's not an expert and won't pretend to be, he's just a guy who got hooked and then read everything and practiced in the backyard until his wife asked him to stop whipping the fence. Retired now with plenty of time to drive up the canyon, he teaches because he likes people and he likes the river, and he's good at getting a nervous beginner to relax.
