Hey everyone, Scott here. Glad you're signed up. Week 1 we're going to walk through how to read your own yard - sun, slope, the spots where water pools or runs off - before we talk plants at all. That's the part people skip and then wonder why things die.
Introduce yourself when you get a chance. Where in Utah are you, and what's the thing that finally made you want to rip out some lawn? Water bill got me. Curious what got you 👍
American Fork, over by Art Dye... Water bill got me to, lol, can't be the only reason but its definitely a big one 😂 Expanded the veggie beds this year, figured the lawn is next on the chopping block. Total beginner here go ahead and tell me what im doing wrong 👍

My side yard does the same thing water just sits there and does nothing, its like a swamp strip. total beginner here lol, mostly just want less mowing . excited for May 5 - Paul, Station District area :)
So before this starts... anyone know if the class covers water rights stuff or is it plant selection and rock layouts. i redid my raised beds twice already trying to deal with runoff from my neighbors sprinklers (he waters like its 1975, dont get me started) and I'm wondering if xeriscaping the front will help with that or if I'm just gonna have a dry front yard and a swampy side yard still. anyone dealt with that??
Not to derail the intro thread but..... I don't think Greenwood soil is as easy to work with as people keep saying. We looked at doing rock and drought tolerant beds there for my brother's old place before he moved in with us, and it was way more clay than I expected. Had to amend the heck out of it before anything drought tolerant would even sit right, let alone thrive. if anyone else is in that area, I wouldn't assume you can throw down rock and call it good! Might just be the one lot though.
