Welcome — and what's actually growing (or dying) in your yard right now
Sooo, welcome. Before we get going I'd love to know what you're working with. Full lawn? Dead patch you're staring at? A weird gravel situation the last owner left you? No wrong answers. Just tell me what's out there so I know what we're dealing with as a group 👍
What's dying is my whole east side border, lol... The junipers my brother put in before he moved in, half of them are juts brown at this point and I don't even know if that's normal winter burn or if they're done for. Watched a video the other night about drip lines vs soaker hoses for rock beds and I think I've been watering wrong for like ten years! Guy made a decent case for drip. Gonna try converting one section before I commit money to the whole yard. Also picked up a soil moisture meter at the hardware store for like twelve bucks just to stop guessing! Cheap enough that if it's junk I'm not out much. We'll see. My neighbor swears by just sticking his finger in the dirt but he's also the guy who still hasn't returned my post hole digger so I don't put a ton of stock in his methods, lol Thanks
Hi Scott, Alexa here, from the Greenwood area... we've got mostly lawn right now, and half of it goes patchy and sad by July no matter what we try lol. signed up mostly bc our water bill in August makes me want to cry a little... total beginner here, just want something that can survive the kids running through it and the heat, i guess.
definately open to suggestions, IMO anything's better then what we've got going on right now 😂 :)

Danette here, from the Art Dye neighborhood!! Jason, that "grass that hates me" line got a real snort out of me, lol, mine is the EXACT same way!! Anyway, I'm three years iont my yard project now and the lawn is next on the list! Not a total beginner, so that's good, lol, but this time I want to do it it right instead of winging it like before! We'll see!!

Honestly at this point I just expect the strip along our driveway to kill anything I put there. Third summer in a row! Put in some kind of drought tolerant sedum thing last spring, did everything the tag said, half of it just crisped up by July. Same exact spot the grass always died in too. Theres something wrong with the soil there or the reflected heat off the concrete or something and I havent figured it out and honestly Im tired of throwing plants at it to find out.
