welcome! class starts May 5 (say hi + why you're here)

Toni CarrInstructorApr 9, 8:17 PM

Hi everyone, Toni here. So glad you're signed up. Week 1 we're doing straight-up peach jam, start to finish, jars and lids and the whole nervous first-seal moment. It's the one that got me into this years ago, so it felt right to start there. Introduce yourself below, tell us your name and why you signed up. Scared of botulism, sick of store jam, grandma used to do this, whatever it is. See you May 5.

Kelton MartinezMay 12, 3:56 PM

So my neighbor lady saw my canning rack in the driveway (long story, was cleaning out the garage) and gave me a whole speech about her mom's water bath setup from like the 80s... apparently you dont even need the fancy canner a big stockpot and a rack that fits. saved me like $40 on amazon lol also watched a couple youtube videos this week to prep and now i have opinions already, which... classic me. one guy swears by the towel-on-the-counter-jars-cant-touch-anything-cold method and another guy says thats overkill. cant wait to find out who's right in real time, probably gonna break a jar anyway hi, im Kelton. wife roped me into this but now im kind of into it. we've got a garden that produced like 40 tomatoes and no plan for them so. this is the plan now

So is this class hands on or is it more of a sit and watch thing... i can do the sit and watch for like an hour tops before i need to be moving. Also, do i need to buy a whole canning pot setup before May 5 or does the class provide one to try first? not trying to drop money on a rack and jars if this ends up being a one and done for me, . kind of doing this so Isabel will let me can the venison and elk we've got stacking up in the deep freeze, so if this doesn't cover meat at all somebody let me know now. - C
