Intro to Acting
Oh man, if the words "acting class" make your stomach drop, this one's for you. It's built for people who have never acted and feel nervous about it. Nervous is good, actually. It means you care.
We'll spend our Monday evenings on our feet, not in chairs listening to me talk. We'll play improv games, work short scenes with partners, and try simple character exercises in a room where mistakes are just good data. Nobody's watching you as closely as you think.
You'll leave able to walk into a scene, make a choice, commit to it, and stay loose when things go sideways. No experience wanted. Just show up and let's try it. 💛
What you'll learn
- Use warm-ups to release nervous energy before scenes
- Apply Yes, And to build scenes with a partner
- Make strong choices and commit fully to them
- React honestly instead of focusing on memorized lines
- Recover on stage when you forget or go off-script
Lessons
- Walking In the Door
We get you on your feet fast, because thinking about acting is worse than doing it.
- Getting Loose
Warm-ups aren't optional, and here's why the silly stuff loosens everybody up.
- Improv Is for Scared People
Most folks think you need to be outgoing to improv; I think the opposite, and here's the rulebook that proves it.
- Making a Choice and Committing
You commit to the choice or you don't do the choice; a half-hearted attempt is more embarrassing than a full-hearted wrong one.
- Working a Short Scene
We take a two-page scene, work it with a partner, and stay loose when it goes sideways.
- Putting It Together
We run what we've built, keep it low-stakes, and figure out where you go next if you want more.
