The lid lifter rule

so my brother Steven has like four lid lifters and swears by the ones with the flat hook, not the curved kind... said the curved ones slip off when the lid's got coals piled on top and youre trying to check food one handed. anyway found one at the thrift store last week for like 2 bucks, obviously grabbed it before even checking which kind it was lol. turned out to be the flat hook style so guess i lucked out. still smells like a campfire from whoever owned it before, kind of a bonus

My brother Steven was over Sunday and saw my dutch oven sitting out from class prep and goes "you know you can use pliers right" ... like yes Steven I have a lid lifter now, its not that deep lol though found a decent one at the DI a few weeks back for like 3 bucks, barely used. felt like a win at the time. still learning not to just yank the lid off and dump ash everywhere, my technique needs work also whether's been windy the last few times ive tried coals outside that half of it just blows off the lid before it does anything. anyone dealt with that or do you just build a little wind block out of something

seasoned two ovens after last thursdays class and havent had rust yet thats good. six weeks went by fast, i cant believe it. glad i finally know the difference between clean and clean 😎 for real, that was a whole thing i didnt know before this class

kelli's scar story is exactly why I set mine on the tailgate now, never the rim... learned that one the hard way I guess.
