Show me your seasoning coats
If you seasoned your oven at home this week, post a photo of how it looked after the last coat. I want to see the color, that dull almost-black sheen is what we're after. If yours came out blotchy that's normal too, just means uneven oil, not a ruined pan.
I think thats the opposite of a good sign. splotchy ring usually means uneven heat or you didnt wipe the oil thin enough before baking it. mine did fine with a spotty center but a solid dark edge all the way around, which is apparently backwards from what youd expect
ive done like 4 dutch ovens at this point (found two at DI for basically nothing, score) and every time the good coats came from way less oil than i thought i needed. like barely a coat, wipe it til it looks almost dry. the ones where i went thicker always came out blotchy like what youre describing
id take it back to 350ish and do another thin coat before you call it good
So mine's got this splotchy ring around the edge, kinda like a coffee stain almost... center part's nice and dull black though, so i think thats a good sign?
Would post a photo but this site's got me stumped lol, still figuring it out
So mine's mostly even dull black, except this one corner still looks kinda shiny lol. probably rushed the oil coat there i think i didnt wipe it down enough before it went in. anyway no idea how to post pics on here either
Same, one shiny corner on mine too, lol!
Ok I redid the seasoning on my 12in dutch oven last week, did the flaxseed oven method, looked great, nice and dark and even... used it once for a roast this weekend and now there's like a dull grayish patch on the bottom where the liquid pooled a bit. Rest of it still looks fine.
Did I strip it back down to bare metal in that one spot or is that just normal and it'll even back out after a few more cooks? Kinda don't want to redo the whole process again if I don't have to..
