Final cook, what are you making
Last week already. What's everyone planning to cook for the final session, bread, a roast, something sweet? Post it here so I can bring the right size ovens and enough coals for everyone. Also this is your last chance to ask me the question you've been sitting on.
So I watched a couple youtube videos this week on coal placement ratios and they all contradicted each other a little, one guy says 2:1 top to bottom for baking, another says it's more like 7 on top 5 on bottom for a 12in oven depending on wind... which, ok, but none of them said what the ambient temp was when they tested it lol, that matters way more then people act like it does. Anyway Im doing a a peach cobbler for the final cook, my neighbor Katelyn gave me the tip to add a little cornstarch to the peach juice so it doesnt get soupy, which I was skeptical of but tested it in a saucepan on the stove first and it does thicken up nice. still mad at her about her sprinklers but credit where its due! Weathers supposed to be windy that night so Im bringing extra coals just in case, dont wanna be the guy with an undercooked cobbler because I didnt account for heat loss
Did the peach cobbler that night, went with 12 coals under and it turned out solid. Kinda bummed the six weeks are already done, went by fast lol! Learned way more about coal count then I ever expected to didn't think there was this much to it
So nice wrok brandon, 12 under sounds about right for that pan lol... did a dutch ovne roast last night, actually landed the coals right for once 😂 gonna miss thursdays i think 🙂
Jeffrey lol that made me laugh, "landed the coals right for once" is basically my whole six weeks summed up... i did a lemon blueberry thing that final night and it was fine but undercooked in the middle, still havent figured out my ratios lol. gonna miss Thursdays honestly, Brandon and I talked during dinner for once instead of tag teaming bedtime
