Say hi before our first Tuesday — Bulgogi & Beyond
Hi everyone, so glad you're here. Week 1 we're doing bulgogi start to finish, marinade timing and all, plus the rice (I will die on the hill that rice matters more than people think). Bring a notebook, you'll want it.
Before then, introduce yourself. Name, and why you signed up. Missing a grandmother's cooking, tired of takeout, just curious, all valid. I read every single one.
hi caroline, baylee davis here, ridgeline ward... signed up because my kids only want bland stuff and i'm trying to expand our dinner rotation before i lose my mind
Hi Caroline, Amanda Jorgensen, Art Dye 2nd Ward!! Baylee, I feel like that's my exact house, five kids and everyone wants noodles plain! Signed up hoping bulgogi is the thing that finally gets past picky Hadlee. Rice tip already has me curious.
Hi Amanda, welcome. Bulgogi's actually a good bet for picky eaters, the marinade is sweet and savory (soy, pear, a little sugar) so it's not spicy, and thin-sliced beef cooks fast and tender! Hadlee might surprise you!
Baylee, same goes for you, this one's a gateway recipe, not a challenge.
Rice tip preveiw since you asked: rinse until the water runs mostly clear! That's half the battle right there! See you both May 5.
Hi Caroline, Dianna Chan here, Quail Ridge. Signed up out of pure curiosity, no picky eaters at my house anymore, just me and Kevin. Rinsing until clear is exactly what I skip half the time, so no worries, I needed that reminder.
Hi Caroline, Kristy Jorgensen, Riverwood. Signed up because Mark loves Korean BBQ and we haven't been out in ages. Rinsing rice until clear, oh my heck, I've SKIPPED that step for years and wondered why.
dianna, same, i "rinse" for like ten seconds tops
Baylee, ten seconds is basically just a rinse-adjacent gesture at that point! Guilty of the same thing though.
Kristy, welcome, and Mark's in luck, we're basically remaking Korean BBQ night at home in week one. And Baylee, ten seconds is what I call the "gesture" rinse, we've all done it. Real talk though, give it another thirty seconds past when you think you're done. You'll see the difference in the pot.
Hi Caroline, Krista here, American Fork. signed up because five kids means bulgogi in bulk or bust. rice tip noted.
Krista, American Fork here too! Bulk bulgogi for five kids sounds like a Tuesday miracle honestly.
Alisha, Krista, another AF person here 😂 four kids and bulgogi in bulk is basically my whole meal-planning personality now! Signed up because we're so tired of takeout it's embarrassing. Rice tip already stressing me out but in a good way.
American Fork too, five kids here, rice has defeated me for years.
Amanda, "rice has defeated me for years" made me laugh out loud. Kevin and I have burned rice for decades. Heck yes to a fresh start on this.
Amanda, Dianna, rice has defeated a lot of good cooks, don't feel bad. It's timing, not talent. Week 1 we fix that for good. See you both May 5.
Caroline "it's timing, not talent" is going on my kitchen wall 😂 see everyone May 5 😅😅
Caroline, "timing, not talent" needs to be on a poster somewhere. Bringing my notebook, already have three questions.
Brandy here, American Fork as well 😂 rice has defeated me too, honestly 🙌🥰
brandy hi neighbor, ridgeline over here... rice defeats me too, may 5 can't come soon enough
Alisha, I'll take that poster commission, ha. Bring the three questions, I mean that, we'll answer them before we even get to the marinade.
Brandy, hi neighbor! Rice defeats a lot of people in this town, I promise it's not just you. American Fork tap water plus the wrong rinse time is a whole subplot we'll cover May 5. See you both then.
Caroline, since your rice lesson I rinse mine till the water runs clear every time, no exceptions. Made a world of difference. See you Tuesday for the gochujang, bringing my paring knife again.
kristy the clear water rinse changed my life too, no exceptions is right... bringing my own knife again as well, we're twins this week
ok kristy sold me, tried the rinse last night and my pot finally is not glued shut 😂 bringing my own apron Tuesday, ready for gochujang
Baylee and Bailey, the rice rinse gospel is spreading and I take full credit! Six weeks and you two turned into rice people, that's the whole win for me. Keep the aprons handy at home, gochujang forgives nobody.
