Signing up for Bulgogi & Beyond May 5th

Kristy JorgensenMay 5, 1:14 PM

Mark and I used to go get KOREAN BBQ every so often before it closed down, so when I saw THIS class I signed right up. Question for whoever's taught before, do we need to bring our own knife or does the CHURCH kitchen have decent ones?? Excited but nervous, oh my heck.

Kristy JorgensenMay 6, 3:00 AM

Update on my own question, think I'm just gonna bring my own knife to be safe, oh my heck!

I'd bring your own just in case!!! Church knives are usually dull, lol, years of just butter and bread duty will do that to a poor knife lol... Anyway, excited for this one too... should be a fun class for sure!!

Putting me down for the Bulgogi & Beyond May 5th, and yes I'll bring something to share, probably a rice dish since Mark loves it and it stretches for a crowd! Still team ten-second rinse over here myself, lol!! Nobody give me a hard time if I bring my colander and give the meat a "rinse-adjacent gesture" of my own before it goes in the marinade. Some of us learned that from our mothers and we are NOT changing at this point in life, at the end of the day it comes out tasting fine and nobody's died yet. Anyway, is anyone doing a gluten free option for the noodles or should I just bring my own on the side, Lisa's been asking about that lately.

Caroline SonInstructorMay 7, 11:08 PM

Kristy and Sheila, bring a paring knife either way, Sheila's right about church knives after enough banana bread duty! And Kristy, don't feel humbled, feel excited, thats the fun part Tuesday. Rinsing until celar matters more than people think, it's washing off surface starch your rice cooks up separate instead of gluey! I skipped it for years too until my mom caught me. We'll do it together at the sinks.

So I saw this posted... we bulk prep bulgogi at our house all the time so I'm bringing my own knife AND my A game Tuesday lol

Kristy JorgensenMay 14, 10:26 PM

"bulk-prep bulgogi" sounds dangerous in the best way, oh my heck!!! If you've got extra marinade recipe to spare, would you mind sharing? I collect those on INDEX cards, lol, have for ages. Mark's already asking if Tuesday's the "meat class"... bless him. Anyway, bringing my paring knife AND my patience THIS time!!

"bring your patience THIS time" got a real snort out of me lol!!! I'll bring my own knife too, no worries at all, I don't mind sharing but I know how it goes lol. See you Tuesday!! So excited, for sure!! Thanks!

Baylee DavisJun 2, 12:14 PM

So Alisha the rice rinsing tip changed my whole dinner rotation lol, i dont even know how i was doing it before that... gonna bring my own knife too, the kitchen ones are fine i guess but mines definately sharper...

Alisha ThomasJun 10, 2:45 AM

So Baylee, same here my knife stays sharp cause Dustin wont let anyone else touch the sharpener lol... bringing it Tuesday for sure. gochujang week, i cant wait ngl. thanks!

Caroline SonInstructorJun 12, 2:43 PM

Alisha and Baylee, love that you're both bringing your own the church knives are fine but a sharp one makes the onions so much easier. Kristy, no pressure at all, we've got extras. Tuesday's the whole dinner-on-the-table push, gochujang, rice timing, all of it landing on your plate by 6:15!!

Baylee DavisJun 14, 2:54 AM

So caroline 6:15 sounds ambitious with the rice timing and the gochujang sauce happening at the same time but i believe it..... liam and brody have been asking why dinner smells like "the good class" nights lately lol :(

Bailey MadsenJun 23, 4:34 PM

The rice thing is real, made a rice heavy dish last week and my kids cheered lol i was shook

Kids CHEERING for rice is a real accomplishment, don't let anyone tell you different!! Still practicing that clear-water rinse Caroline taught us, lol takes me forever but I'm getting their (haha I mean there, oops)! Missing our Tuesdays sooo much!! Gochujang or bust at home!!

Caroline SonInstructorJun 29, 2:53 AM

A paring knife will do you fine for gochujang at home, dont overthink it! And that clear-water rinse getting practiced is exactly the muscle memory I wanted to send you all home with! Gochujang or bust indeed!

Dianna ChanAug 23, 3:13 AM

Missing our Tuesdays too!! Gochujang tub officially scraped clean, lol

Caroline SonInstructorAug 24, 4:07 PM

Dianna, a scraped-clean gochujang tub is basically a diploma. that's the whole point of the class working. im missing our Tuesdays too, honestly, kitchen feels quieter without all of you texting rice photos. fingers crossed there's a fall session so we can refill that tub together
