Hi everyone, Elizabeth here. Watercolor isn't even my main hobby but it's the one that stuck around, so I'm glad you're here. Week 1 is just basic washes, laying down flat color and watching it pool and separate, and dealing with how fast paint dries out here compared to what YouTube tutorials assume. Hi all, Brianna here! Signing up for this because my mother in law paints and every time I visit her house I stare at her watercolor of the Sundance mountains like it's gonna teach me by osmosis 🙈 finally decided to learn myself instead of admiring from afar.
Random but my coworker at dispatch does watercolor on her lunch breaks and told me the craft store brand paint pans are honestly fine for beginners, don't need to go fancy right away. That true for this class or are we gonna need specific supplies? I'm a crochet girl through and through so buying paint anything feels like foreign territory to me lol. Just don't wanna show up under-prepared or over-prepared, one or the other guaranteed knowing me.

So I bought a whole watercolor set off some deal online thinking I was gteting ahead of the game and half the pans are dried out and cracked already. didnt even open the class supply list yet. annoyed lol, thought I was being smart getting it early
I didnt have that experience at all..... i straight up forgot about the paints the second the last class ended lol. no withdrawals over here, I just moved on to the next thing. not saying thats better different I guess. signing up for this one so I can finish a painting for once intsead of leaving it half done on the table for two weeks. kaylee said if I buy more brushes and dont use them shes donating them, so, motivation
Ok signing up for this and immediately annoyed because the supply list they emailed doesn't match the one on the class page, two different brands of paint listed and I already ordered the wrong one 🙈 not cheap either. so that's fun
So Becky signed us both up for this and I told her Im only doing it if I can use it for the rocking horse... apparently thats not really how watercolor works, according to her. Anyway I watched a couple videos last night trying to figure out what supplies actually matter versus what the craft store wants you to buy. guy on youtube said the paper matters way more then the paint, cheap pad just pills up and warps on you. grabbed a cold press block from Amazon last night, we'll see if it shows up before the 5th. Also if anyone already has brushes theyre not using, Ross next door apparently has some from a class Wendy took years ago, might see if I can borrow em before I buy new ones. knowing my luck with borrowed tools Ill get em back missing half the bristles but hey, free is free. - A

This makes me happy to read... i keep opening my paints at the kitchen table on Tuesday nights out of habit, then remembering there's no Zoom to hop on. did the same thing last night sat there with a wet wash and no class to bring it to. fingers crossed for a fall session we can all be weird about Tuesdays together again Thanks for the recipe!
lol Elizabeth thats exactly what happened to me too, had my water cup out and everything before i remembered. kids were asleep for once and i just sat there like now what. really hoping fall session happens, tuesdays need to be a thing again
