welcome - class starts May 4, say hi below
Hey everyone, Chance here. Glad you signed up. Week 1 we're just getting the guitar itself sorted out - tuning by ear, how to hold the thing without your wrist cramping, and your first two chords. No songs yet, just the mechanics, because that's what actually sticks later.
Introduce yourself below if you don't mind - name, and why you wanted to learn. I read every one before May 4.
Hey Chance, Aaron Larsen here, American Fork side.
"something for me for once".
Danny Cannon, American Fork here. Play badly and happily lol, always wanted real fundamentals instead of just guessing my way through it. Nervous too, Richard, but May 4 will be good for all of us for sure. - D
Mark Cummings here, Ameriacn Fork, Fox Hollow area. zero fundamentals, Danny been guessing my whole life too lol ๐ wanted something that was for me for once. nervous but heck yes im in for May 4. - M
Alan Rasmussen here, Riverwood area! Same boat as Mark and the rest of you, zero fundamentals, just want something that's mine for once besides genealogy and tomatoes lol. Curious about that wrist-cramping fix you mentioned, Chance... mine already hurts just thinking about it. Looking forward to May 4! Thanks
Hi all, Ashlyn Bingham here, north AF near the church on the hill lol. total beginner, no fundamentals either, Alan, and tomatoes and genealogy sound relaxing to me right now. i do facials all day my hands are pretty steady but my wrists get cranky too im curious abotu that fix as well! may 4 sounds great,
so i pulled an old guitar out of the closet for this, its probably my brothers from like 15 years ago... does it need new strings before may 4 or will it be fine to start with whatevers on their now?? dont even know how to tell if strings are bad lol :) Thanks!
Signed up for this three separate times because the site kept "timing out" on payment and now I'm terrified I'm going to show up May 4th and find out I've accidentally paid for beginner guitar three times over. Called the community ed office twice, got the same cheerful "it should be fine" both times, which does not tell me if it's fine. Still no confirmation email.
So a guy at work said beginner guitar is basically all forearm and tuhmb pain for the first month, lol, cool cool cool. checked the weather for may 4th out of habit (dont ask, it's a rfelex at this point) and its supposed to be nice which means im gonna be annoyed sitting inside with a guitar instead of taking Santiago up a trail. anyway hi, im jess. printed a little pick holder clip thing over the weekend cause thats what i do now with any new hobby, apparently. see yall there
Alan Rasmussen here, Riverwood 2nd Ward..... signed up mostly because my son Elijah keeps leaving his guitar propped in the corner unplayed and it bugs me, ! Figured I'd learn it myself so it stops being a monument to good intentions. Before class starts I went down a rabbit hole watching a fella on youtube walk through how to actually tune a guitar by ear instead of relying on a clip-on tuner the whole time... he made a decent case for it building your ear faster. Took me three tries to get the low E right, oh my heck. Also picked up a cheap set of extra strings and a capo at the craft store since they had a little music accessories rack tucked in the back, wasn't expecting that. Anyway, see everyone May 4th... bring your own callouses, apparently, mine haven't shown up yet.
Hi all, Aaron here. signed up kind of on a whim told my wife I'd finally learn instead of saying I would every year lol. Random but a guy at work saw my beat up guitar case in the break room and todl me to just watch some Justinguitar videos on youtube before class even starts, said it helped him way more then he expected. Ive been doing that the last couple nights after Leo goes down, my fingers hurt in a way I did not expect for just pressing strings lol. also grabbed a cheap clip on tuner from Amazon cause tuning by ear was... not happening for me, we'll see. excited for this one feels like something thats just for me for once. see you all May 4th
Well, six weeks flew by. wrist thing Chance showed us in week 1 still works lol. gonna miss Monday nights . hoping for a fall session ๐
Mark, glad that wrist trick stuck around, that one saves more hands then any chord shape does... six weeks did fly. i'll miss the Monday nights too. keep at the kitchen table, and fingers crossed on a fall session :(
