Welcome, and a couple logistics things before Thursday
Good news first, I'll have all the printers leveled and dialed in before you walk in, so we're not burning night one watching beds home themselves. We'll actually get something printing Thursday. Couple quick logistics: we start at 7 on the dot, and I do mean 7, not 7:05. Park in the north lot too, because the front spots disappear fast once the other program going on that night shows up. And if you own a laptop, bring it, I've got a handful of loaners but not enough for everybody, so your own is the safer bet. Get Cura installed on it before Thursday if you can. That's really it. Been looking forward to this group.

Isaiah lol I feel this in my soul 😂 mine's been running since 2023 and I still wing the settings and hope for the best. Kinda excited to learn what I'm doing for once, lol. Real question tho, should I bother tuning anything on mine before Thursday or just leave it as is and bring it in? Thanks, Nathan
Isaiah, leave work early, worth it. Nathan, "winging it and hoping" was my entire first month, don't feel bad. My first print looked like a squashed spider because I hadn't leveled the bed. Still on my shelf, cat hair and all. Bring both machines' quirks Thursday, we'll sort them out together.
Oh my heck Jacob, cat hair all over the shelf lol, that's a mood for sure! Speaking of which my cat knocked a whole cup of coffee onto my desk yesterday, took me like an hour to clean up and I still find sticky spots on stuff. Anyway got my laptop packed up already so Im not that guy scrambling Thursday mornin lol, see you guys then. ~boyd 👍
ok so quick thing before thursday, bring a container u dont mind getting msesed up. were doing the pouring exercise again this year and last time someone brought their nice tupperware and it was NOT the move lol... learn frmo that lesson i guess also parking behind the building is closed so use the side lot instead, its only like a two min walk but annoying if u dont know ahead of time. see yall thursday 🙏 Thanks!

Yeah Cura is way more drag and drop than Python for sure, no worries their lol. bringing my laptop too, already got it installed on there so I should be good to go.

Levi's right, Cura's mostly clicking sliders, no coding needed. Though if you ever want to get into scripting custom supports or automating file prep down the road, that Python background will pay off. Not week two stuff though. For Thursday get it installed if you can before you get here, saves us ten minutes. North lot, 7 sharp, see you both.

guess i cant use the no laptop excuse this time lol. just hoping the filament week gets into why my first prints keep looking like plate of spaghetti tbh at this point idk what im doing wrong
Winging it and still printing means you're doing something right already. Week 3 is mostly filament moisture, temps, and why spaghetti happens. Bring a question or two from your own failed prints, we'll troubleshoot live.
coworker of mine has been running a printer for like two years now and he said the number one thing he wishes someone told him early on was to buy a cheap set of feeler gauges for bed leveling instead of using the paper trick everyone recommends. said it drove him nuts for months getting inconsistent first layers. picked up a set at the hardware store for like 8 bucks, cant confirm yet if itll fix my life but figured id pass it alogn before thursday in case anyone else is fighting first layer stuff already. also unrelated but if its snowing tuesday like they're saying, my garage where i was gonna keep the printer gets real cold and i guess PLA doesnt love that, so if anyone has thoughts on keeping ambient temp stable in a non insulated space lmk
