filament brands from Home Depot vs online for slicing settings
Class covered slicer profiles this week. Home Depot filament seems like the easy safe choice, is it actually fine to practice on or should I just order online.
The opposite happened for me lol. grabbed the hardware store filament thinking it'd be the easy safe choice and it kept stringing everything, had to redo my temp tower twice.
wait no... i think it was the retainer settings not the temp, let me not lie to yall. but still, ended up going back to the stuff i ordered olnine and it was way more consistent spool to spool. could just be my printer being dramatic tho, it does that sometimes 💀
not saying andrews wrong, just wasnt my expereince at all. for sure for sure got the itch to just buy a cheap filament dryer now instead of troubleshooting forever lol classic me
andrew G saved me this week, lol. the home depot stuff has been totally fine for me just learning the settings.
So heck yes to what isaiah said, thats basically been my whole experience to... i grabbed some cheap stuff from home depot when i first started and it was fine for learning the slicer settings part, dialing in first layer speed and temp and all that. where it bit me was storage, not the brand itself lol. left a spool uncovered in my garage for way too long and it soaked up humidity and started stringing everywhere. had to dry it out in a box of rice for like two days to save it kind of a pain. so my advice, home depot filament is totally fine to practice on. dont do what i did and leave it sitting out. get a container, any container, before you even worry about brand. for real,
So Home Depot filament works fine... watch how you store it though. ours sat out in the garage for a while and got humid on us and printed like toatl garbage lol. learned that one the hard way :)
so Kyle J that humidity thing is TOO real, Justin said the same thing lol. mine's been sitting in the garage all summer in this heat too, might be cooking it the other direction ... printed my first bracket fine though so i guess its not all bad Thanks

Kelton, ha, fair. for what it's worth Home Depot filament got me through my own first bracket and mount too, cheap stuff is genuinely fine for dialing in slicer settings. just get it in a sealed bin with some silica packets, garage temperature swings will get you either direction like Isaiah's finding out. bummed the six weeks are done, already missing Thursday nights. fingers crossed for a fall session
