Bring your phone next week, we're doing this hands-on

My coworker at the salon got a text last week that looked exactly like it was from her bank, saying suspicious activity on her account, click here to verify. she almost clicked it on her lunch break before she evne thought twice. turned out to be fake, but it had the actual bank logo and everything. Made me go download my bank's real app the night before just i know what the legit notifications loko like versus the scam ones... kind of embarrassing i hadnt done that already. anyway bringing my phone next week for sure, kind of curious if they're gonna show us how to check if a link is real before you tap it. that seems like the actual useful skill here, not just "dont click sketchy stuff" which we all already know and still fall for sometimes.

Honestly the sign up sheet thing is basically this in miniature... everyone will text me "hey am I bringing the ham or is someone else" the morning of and Ill be answering that at church while trying to play prelude music. IMO if you make people do it on there phone right there in the room, hands on, actually clicking the link while someone's watching, it sticks. texting me individually does not scale, I dont care how nice it feels to just ask me directly lol. i think we're too dependent on me being the human sign up sheet and at the end of the day thats not sustainable, i have an actual calling. Bring your phone, we're doing this liev next week, no exceptions. fight me on this one if you want but I've been doing this too long to pretend the group text method is working

so I actually disagree with this one..... we tried the hands on sign up thing for the activities committee last year and half the room just doesnt do tech in the moment, they nod along and then still text someone later anyway. it doesnt fix the behavior it just adds a step.

honestly I think the real fix is a shared doc that lives somewhere permanent, not a link people click once in a room and forget by wednesday. ive been running our activity budget that way for like two years and it's the only reason things dont fall apart, not because everyone had a moment of clicking it together.

not saying dont try it, just... dont be shocked when youre still getting the morning of ham texts anyway lol

I hear you on the doc thing, and I dont doubt it works for the budget stuff, thats a different animal though. The nodding along part... yeah thats fair, i've watched people nod at me during linger longer announcements too and still text me the next day like nothing happened. but for me the point of doing it in the room isnt that everyone magically becomes a tech person, its that if theyve already clicked it once with me standing there, the muscle memory is there for next time. right now most of these people have literally never opened the link. thats the actual problem. I guess my take is do both. hands on the first time its not some mystery thing, then you're permanent doc idea as the thing it lives in after. i dont think you get people to to a permanent doc if theyve never touched the temporary version once! And IMO the ham tex

You two are both right and its kind of funny watching this play out lol. austin's not wrong that half these people have never opened a shared link in there life, and I dont think a doc materializes trust out of nowhere.

but ive also watched the "just click it right now while I watch" thing die a slow death in real time... do the hands on thing next week if you want, im just calling it now that by December were back to ham texts regardless lol

not trying to to be a downer, just... low expectations, high hopes, that kind of thing :)
